Architecture Programs Approved as STEM-designated Fields of Study

The Knowlton School is pleased to announce that the school’s Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BSArch) and Master of Architecture (MArch) programs have been approved as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) designated fields of study. The approval by The Ohio State University’s Office of Academic Affairs is effective spring 2023.

The STEM designation will increase international students’ work opportunities after graduation by making them eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT) and STEM OPT extension, as outlined by Ohio State OIA. Upon approval, students will be able to gain valuable work experience in the United States for up to 36 months after graduation. This opportunity will support the professional development of international students as well as contribute to the diversity of perspectives in the field of architecture. In addition, a STEM designation will allow faculty and staff to apply for federal and Ohio STEM grant funds.
